2023 Turkey–Syria "Kahramanmaras" earthquakes: On 6 February 2023, two powerful earthquakes struck southern and central Turkey. The first occurred 34 km (21 mi) west of the city of Gaziantep at 04:20 TRT (01:17 UTC), causing widespread damage in Turkey and Syria. With a maximum Mercalli intensity of IX (Violent) and a magnitude of at least Mww 7.8, the first earthquake is tied with the 1939 Erzincan earthquake as the strongest instrumentally recorded earthquake to hit Turkey in modern times, while possibly being surpassed by the 1668 North Anatolia earthquake. It is also the deadliest earthquake to strike the country since the 1999 İzmit earthquake.

The earthquake was followed by numerous aftershocks, the strongest of which had a magnitude of Mw 6.7. The second earthquake occurred 9 hours later, 4 km (2.5 mi) south–southeast of Ekinözü in Kahramanmaraş Province at 13:24 TRT (10:24 UTC), also having a maximum Mercalli intensity of IX and a magnitude of at least Mww  7.5. As a result of the earthquakes, more than 3,600 people were killed and more than 15,600 were injured.

From January 28 to February 4, 2023, a large, white high-altitude balloon of Chinese origin crossed North American airspace, passing over Alaska, western Canada, and the contiguous United States. The American and Canadian militaries alleged the balloon to be a surveillance device, to which the Chinese government countered [LIED?] that it was a civilian meterological research airship blown off course. The balloon passed over Montana by February 1 and Missouri by February 3 before being shot down the next day by the U.S. Air Force over territorial waters off the coast of South Carolina, on orders from U.S. President Joe Biden.

The incident added strain in relations between the United States and China, causing U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to postpone an imminent diplomatic visit to Beijing. It also further strained Canada–China relations; due to the airspace incursion, Canada summoned the Chinese ambassador. On February 3, the U.S. Department of Defense said a second Chinese balloon was passing over Latin America.

Xina's LIES, excuses, blame shifting

In contract law, force majeure (from Law French: 'overwhelming force', lit. 'superior force') is a common clause in contracts which essentially frees both parties from liability or obligation when an extraordinary event or circumstance beyond the control of the parties, such as a war, strike, riot, crime, epidemic, or sudden legal change prevents one or both parties from fulfilling their obligations under the contract. Explicitly excluded is any event described as an act of God, which covers a separate domain and legally differs, though it is related to contract law. In practice, most force majeure clauses do not entirely excuse a party's non-performance but suspend it for the duration of the force majeure.
