Turkey’s Mediterranean policy has been framed in large measure by the
‘Blue Homeland’ doctrine, driven by its
growing energy deficit and a
desire for greater geopolitical influence in the region. Meanwhile,
Egypt, Israel, Greece, Lebanon and
Cyprus, led by their own economic and geopolitical drivers, have developed a
common strategy to counter Turkey. Fiona Mullen discusses how
increasing tensions over offshore resources and
freedom of navigation, together with regional challenges such as
migration and
terrorism, impact on energy and geopolitics in the East Mediterranean.
